How do you find your inner drive?
I don't care if your trying to get your dream job, start a business, or your just trying to start working out; everyone needs a inner drive. Having the drive to say, "yes I will do it" more times then saying, "nope not today." But how?
Break down:
We think about to much.
We aim high and don't commit.
We try to impress others and not ourselves.
Let's take running for a example.
We think about it to much. How many times have you wanted to go for a run and all you could think about is, "it's too cold." Say I. I'm assuming most of you said I, me also. It's cold, my muscles will be sore, I will probably only run a block and drop to the ground. This is called a thinking trap.
How to uncover the positive lining in your thinking trap is simple. When you start going into these thinking traps ask yourself "what's running going to do for me?" You may think, "well, first off it's going to get me into shape and more importantly it will make me feel better over all. It will also give me energy for the rest of my day."
[Let's be honest] maybe not in the beginning but in a month from now I will be glade I stuck with it.
You have to focus on what running is going to do for you in a month from now or a week from now or a day from now, NOT what it's going feel like during. The more you think about it the more you don't want to do it. [So true]
Here's another thinking trap.
We aim super high in our goals and we hardly ever set small goals to accomplish. Your dream might be, "one day I want to run a marathon." That's a great goal to have! But what's your goal this week? Do you have any? If not you're probable in a thinking trap. Why? Because all you can think about is how you can't run a full marathon right now so why bother running today? Make it easy for yourself. Why not set a small goal like, "I will run 3 times this week." Not only is that very doable but it makes your mind take it a piece at a time.
[When people are in a eating contest they tend to cut up their food in small portions. It tricks their brain to take things slow and focus on one thing at a time.]
We need to feel like we're making some sort of progress. So don't think your aim is stupid because it's small.
Inner drive should be a drive to help ourselves accomplish one goal at a time. You should NOT have the end goal be to impress people. We tend to want to lose weight to impress people but it's a false sense of accomplishment. It's shallow and wont lead you to go anywhere near your goals.
Your inner drive grows as you train your brain to think positive and make simple changes in your life. It's accomplishing those small goals to get to the bigger ones. Remember you have to live with you at the end of the day. I don't care if I am your friend or your roommate at the end of the day, you live with you.
